A ZIP Codes is a postal code used by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Launched in 1963, the primary format consists of five numbers. In 1983, an extended ZIP+4 code was started; it involves the five digits of the ZIP Code, succeeded by a hyphen and four digits that designate a more particular location.
